OK, so Essences are basically the mean to get your mount to Level Up. You just simply use it by left clicking it and dropping it on your mount (when you're riding it, or "wearing it" to make it simpler). Exactly like Oriharukon and Laktorerium Powders, but with mounts.
Now, you can only use a certain Essence on a certain mount. That means, you can't use Fenrir Essence on a Dragon, only Dragon Essences on a Dragon.What's the big idea about this, huh? Isn't this obvious? Well, kinda. There are some mounts, horses specifically, that have a black version and a white version. Harnessed Horse, for example, has a Black version (which gives Evasion) and it's counterpart, the White version (which gives Resistance). Why am I telling you this you may start to ask, right? Well, you can only use White Harnessed Horse's Essence on the White version and the same for the Black version. And those can be easily mistaken when you're in a hurry, trust me.
Also, there are many Essences which only differ in their name. Unisus, Pegasus and Unicorn Essences all look the same, except for their name. The same happens with horses Essences. So always take a second look to their name to avoid any trouble when buying or using Essences.
Alright now, did you notice that when you finally get to make your egg to a baby form and reach Maturity 100/100 you still can't ride it? Well, it's really simple. If you have a Maturity 100/100 baby mount, the only thing you have to do is use an Essence (of it's type) on it. Then "voilà!" you have your real mount (I'm not French, by the way).
Now a little advice, always look out when you're going to use an Essence on a mount that is on an even Level (odd: 1, 3, 5, etc.; even: 2, 4, 6, etc.), because your mount can decrease a Level. Yes, that's kinda disappointing, right? You have your shinny brand new Level 92 Pegasus and "poof!", all the way back to 91.
But nothing is impossible! There is a certain item called "Mount Growth Stabilizer" that makes your Essences less likely to fail.
Go to Erion Town, talk to the NPC Ehre and choose the said item combination option. You'll need two "Magic Seal [F]" (although the name says "Warrior Seal", trust me on this one) and 10 Laktorerium Powders. When you make it, 10 pieces of this item will appear in your inventory and all the ingredients will be gone. This can be used on your Essences to "upgrade them" (just like armor or weapons) to the next plus ("+1", "+2", "+3", etc.). This will definitely increase the chances of success of that Essence, but it has it's price, so it's you call. But if you really want to Level Up your mount no matter what, take my advice and make these things.
OK, so that's the real thing for Essences. Nothing complicated, right?
